Recently students of San Pedro High School took a trip to the one and only Pantages Theatre to watch the historical musical “Hamilton” in Hollywood, CA. Hamilton is an iconic american musical. Unlike other Broadway musicals, they’ve taken it to another level by incorporating rap. In such a small period of time, “Hamilton” has been reviewed as one of the best musicals in existence. With the amazing opportunity of students getting free tickets (they originally range between $85-$750), I’ve decided to ask a few students on their experience and personal reviews on the musical to see if the critics are reflecting true honesty.

Alaisia Colbert (11th grade)

What was your opinion on the musical ?

“The musical was incredible, I enjoyed every bit of it.”

Do you believe critics said the truth when they said it’s the best ? Why ?

“Yes, I do believe that critics said the truth because I had to do my own research for all the projects I had to do to even get the chance to go on the field trip.”

How was your experience at the Pantages Theatre ?

“My experience was unexplainable, like you would have to be there to see how awesome it is, it’s one of those things that you just have to see for yourself.”

If you had one word to describe “Hamilton” what would it be?

“Bold.”

Lauren Wilmore (11th grade)

What was your opinion on the musical ?

“My opinion on the musical would be that it was really good. It was very diverse and the songs were very catchy. I liked it a lot.”

Do you believe critics said the truth when they said it’s the best ? Why ?

“Yes I do, because it’s not like any other play that you’d see, they made it their own.”

How was your experience at the Pantages Theatre ?

“It was a really good experience, the theatre was really nice it was kinda like an old/medieval type of pretty.”

If you had one word to describe “Hamilton” what would it be ?

“Outstanding.”

Guadalupe Padilla (11th grade)

What was your opinion on the musical ?

“I thought it was a very well written script with raw emotion and an overall great performance.”

Do you believe critics said the truth when they said it’s the best ? Why ?

“In my personal opinion I believe so, because the way Lin Manuel Miranda put an incredible amount of work into it, it just memorized the crowd.”

How was your experience at the Pantages Theatre ?

“Honestly, it felt really comfortable with the setting and the whole play I was able to see the whole stage and really take in the scenery.”

If you had one word to describe “Hamilton” what would it be ?

“Impressionable.”

In all honesty, everyone’s going to have their own opinions and perspectives. Other than that, many students seemed to enjoy, plus the one statement that doesn’t seem to change is the matter of “Hamilton” being truly iconic. It’s strongly recommended to go see this amazing musical for the limited time it lasts at the beautiful Pantages Theatre
