“In November 2017, the Alianza Nacional de Campesinas wrote a letter of solidarity to the Hollywood women involved in exposing the sexual abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein. The letter, published in Time, described experiences of assault and harassment among female farmworkers. The letter stated that it was written on behalf of the approximately 700,000 female farmworkers in the United States”

Many women work in places where they have to endure assault because they live in fear that if their voice is heard, they will no longer be able to support themselves and their families. In light of Harvey Weinstein allegations, many women, even female farm workers, have found the courage to speak out against sexual assault and harassment in their workplace

If somebody has the power to influence others and has a strong platform they should be able to use it for the better and not just sit back and ignore the deafening sounds of victims’ outcries.

Fortunately, Women and men alike in Hollywood have taken it upon themselves to create a huge movement with organizations such as Feminist Majority Foundation, Civican, and We for She. In the Golden Globes of 2018 almost every actor wore black to support the movement “ Times Up”. These Hollywood stars are using their platform to show to victims that their voices are being heard and that their abuse has went on for too long, Time is up.
